Forward Matt Hendricks earned his first "Avalanche Play of the Week" honor with a shootout goal against the Buffalo Sabres. The tally, which came in the 11th round of a marathon tiebreaker, received 50.43% of fan votes.
Hendricks beat out back-to-back stops by Craig Anderson (28.24%) and a Chris Stewart shootout goal (21.33%), both of which came against the Calgary Flames.
The play now automatically qualifies for Colorado’s year-end “Play of the Year” bracket-style tournament – to be determined by Avalanche fans. Be sure to check back each Friday during the season, as three new choices for the Avalanche’s “Play of the Week” will be posted for you to vote upon.
Hendricks Ends Marathon – 1/9 @ Buffalo Matt Hendricks dug deep into his bag of tricks, bringing out an old move he used back in high school to help the Avs top the Sabres in a shootout. As the tiebreaker stretched to an 11th round, Hendricks made a big shot fake – complete with a leg kick – to get Buffalo netminder Patrick Lalime down on his pads. From there, the forward went to his backhand to put home the shootout winner.
