Building the knowledge and foundation of an active lifestyle for kids can be difficult, and the Colorado Avalanche are doing their part in helping local community students learn how.
Last Friday afternoon, Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz and forward Ben Meyers joined the team's strength and conditioning coach Casey Bond at Sagebrush Elementary School in Aurora for the second saga of TeamFIT.

TeamFIT is a Kroenke Sports Charities initiative that encourages and promotes fitness and nutrition basics through an interactive session for students.
Both players came away from the event enjoying their time in giving back to the community.
"I think it's cool for them to get to know us, as a human being." Francouz said following the event. "[To] see us up close and also for us to get the interaction with the kids and enjoy a good time."

This fitness session involved 51 elementary-aged students that were split into four groups to match the four different training exercises: agility using four cones to change directions, agility ladders, and two stations that featured pushups, situps, crabwalks and more.
"I think it's just cool to get out into the community," Meyers added. "It's kind of a flashback for me from my schooling days. It's just nice to interact with the kids and see how much fun they are having."
As the kids began to roll into the school's gymnasium, they were greeted by an Avs community staffer with TeamFIT shirts, and smiles lit up the room because we all know as a kid, nothing is cooler than getting free stuff.
Following a brief introduction by Bond regarding the regimented life of Avalanche players and keeping them in top shape, Meyers and Francouz walked through the door.
Bond continues with, "This is Ben Meyers and this is… Pav-lets just go with Frankie."
Warmups began, which included jumping jacks led by Meyers, air squats, reverse lunges and balancing on one foot before the kids dispersed to their respective stations. After each group reached and completed all four stations, the students gathered together for a brief Q&A session.
The questions were genuine as Francouz and Meyers answered away.

"Has the puck ever hit you in the face?" and, "Have you ever got tackled?" ere just a few of the questions being asked Francouz's way.
As the event was coming to an end, Meyers, Francouz and Bond joined in on a yearbook picture before the kids exited the gym, picking up signed player cards and a KSC drawstring bag with goodies inside.
"We just had a room full of kids just running around, showing them what the workouts look like, our preparation or warm-up routine," Francouz said. "It was nice to get the kids moving and show them different exercises, and mostly have fun."
