The Monsters opened their third AHL season in dramatic fashion on Sunday, coming back from a two-goal deficit to beat the Rochester Americans, 3-2, in overtime. Philippe Dupuis played the role of hero for Lake Erie, netting the game-tying goal with 9:05 remaining in the third period and then scoring the game-winner with six seconds left in overtime. Brian Willsie also scored for the Monsters, who received a 25-save effort from Tyler Weiman.

Lake Erie returns to action this weekend, playing at Rochester on Friday before hosting Rockford in its home opener Saturday.

-Minnesota’s Kent Patterson picked up an exhibition victory, stopping eight of the nine shots he faced in 40 minutes of action during the Gophers’ 4-1 win over British Columbia. Mike Carman was held off the score sheet in the contest.

-Brad Malone recorded the secondary assist on the game-winning goal during North Dakota’s 7-1 exhibition victory over Manitoba on Sunday.

-Kieran Millan stopped all seven shots he faced in 30:54 of action as Boston College skated to a 2-2 exhibition tie with St. Francis Xavier. Kevin Shattenkirk was held without a point for the Terriers, while defenseman Colby Cohen did not play in the contest.

-Paul Carey was held pointless as Boston College topped St. Francis Xavier, 4-1, in exhibition play on Sunday.

-Victoriaville’s Joel Chouinard scored his first goal of the season (a power-play tally) and notched an assist on the game-tying goal with one second remaining in regulation as the Tigres pulled out a 4-3 shootout win over Shawinigan on Friday. Chouinard leads all Victoriaville defensemen with five points (1g/4a) despite playing in only seven of the team’s 10 games.

-Kelsey Tessier scored two power-play goals, including the overtime winner, in Quebec’s 5-4 triumph over Rouyn-Noranda last Wednesday. Peter Delmas made 28 saves, but was pulled from the game in the third period and didn’t earn a decision. Tessier then recorded two assists in the Remparts’ 9-1 rout of Baie Comeau on Friday. The forward has totaled seven points (3g/4a) in eight games this season.

-Saskatoon blueliner Stefan Elliott saw his season-opening four-game point streak come to an end, as he was held pointless in weekend contests against Prince Albert and Brandon.

-Mississauga’s Cameron Gaunce notched two power-play assists Thursday in his squad’s 4-2 loss to Niagara. The defenseman added another pair of helpers the following evening as the Majors took a 3-2 overtime decision from Brampton. Gaunce has recorded six assists in six games this year.

-Brandon Maxwell stopped 30 shots to help Kitchener earn a 6-5 overtime victory Friday against Saginaw. Maxwell has posted two wins and a shootout loss in three appearances this season for the Rangers.

-Nathan Condon recorded an assist as the Fargo Force began its season with a 5-2 win over Lincoln on Friday.
