The Lake Erie Monsters wrapped up a six-game road swing with a 5-1 loss to Grand Rapids on Friday (Nov. 7) evening. Aaron MacKenzie scored a goal in his second straight game, while netminder Jason Bacashihua turned away 30-of-35 shots.

The Monsters returned from their road trip and picked up a 6-4 victory over Hamilton Sunday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Trailing by a 4-2 count heading into the third period, the Monsters scored four times within a 4:48 span in the final stanza to earn the victory. Chris Stewart had a hat trick and added an assist, while T.J. Galiardi totaled three points (1g/2a) for his first professional multi-point game. Michael Vernace and Philippe Dupuis also tallied for Lake Erie, which received a 17-save effort from Tyler Weiman.

The Monsters will play their next five games at home, including contests this week against Houston (Nov. 14) and Hartford (Nov. 16).

Johnstown Chiefs
Johnstown is now on a four-game winning streak after handing the Reading Royals a pair of defeats last week.

Mark McCutcheon recorded an assist in the Chiefs’ 4-2 win on Friday evening, while Ian Keserich backstopped Johnstown to a 5-4 victory in Saturday’s rematch by making 16 saves.

The Chiefs will return to action Wednesday when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones.

-Ryan Stoa tallied two assists in the University of Minnesota’s 2-2 tie Friday with the University of New Hampshire and then scored the game-winning goal with the Gophers short-handed in a 6-2 win during Saturday’s rematch. The junior captain leads the team with 13 points (7g/6a) through eight games.

Mike Carman added an assist in Saturday’s victory to help the Gophers remain undefeated (5-0-3) this season.

-Colby Cohen, Kevin Shattenkirk and Brandon Yip tallied an assist apiece in Boston University’s 6-4 triumph over UMass-Lowell on Friday. The Terriers (6-1-0) now own the No. 1 ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Poll.

-Justin Mercier scored a power-play goal in Miami (Ohio) University’s 2-2 tie with Ferris State University on Friday. Mercier has totaled five points (3g/2a) in 10 games this season, with all of his goals coming on the power play.

-Kelsey Tessier assisted on the game-winning power-play goal with 2:12 remaining in the third period to propel Quebec to a 3-2 win over Rimouski on Wednesday. Tessier then exploded offensively during an 8-6 win over Baie-Comeau on Friday, notching a hat trick and adding two assists. The center now has 14 points (5g/9a) in 16 games this season.

Trevor Cann is off to an impressive start with the London Knights
-Netminder Trevor Cann stopped 46-of-48 shots to earn a victory in what turned out to be his final start for the Peterborough Petes. Following the game, Cann was traded to the London Knights in exchange for Barron Smith, Sergei Korostin and a second round pick in the 2010 OHL Draft.

The goaltender has experienced a solid start in London, picking up a pair of wins since his arrival - including a 24-save shutout of Mississauga on Sunday.

The Knights have also been bolstered by the return of defenseman Kevin Montgomery, who was assigned to London last week after beginning the season with the Lake Erie Monsters. In three games last week the blueliner totaled four assists.

-Fargo’s Nathan Condon recorded a goal in the Force’s 3-2 loss to Omaha on Friday. Condon ranks second on the team in both goals (5) and points (6).
