Farm Report: Monsters Top Toronto

The Lake Erie Monsters opened last weekend with a 2-1 loss to the Rochester Americans on Friday (Nov. 28). Chris Mueller scored Lake Erie’s lone goal, while Jason Bacashihua turned away 22-of-24 shots.

The Monsters earned a 3-2 win over Toronto Saturday night behind 23 saves from Tyler Weiman. It was Lake Erie’s third win over the Marlies in as many games this season. Weiman has picked up wins in all three contests against Toronto, totaling 100 saves and one shutout. Codey Burki, Chris Durno and Marty Sertich each scored for the victors.

The Monsters don’t take to the ice again until they host the Iowa Stars for a Dec. 6-7 home set at Quicken Loans Arena.

-No. 1 Minnesota dropped a 6-3 decision to Michigan on Friday at the College Hockey Showcase. Ryan Stoa scored his 11th goal of the season and Kent Patterson made his first appearance in net for the Gophers. Patterson replaced Alex Kangas in the second period and stopped 25-of-27 shots in 35:59 of action.

-Boston University played a rare Tuesday night contest last week against Holy Cross and came out with a 3-2 win. Brandon Yip had a power-play goal for the Terriers and Kevin Shattenkirk notched an assist. BU then topped St. Lawrence by a 4-1 count Saturday, with Yip recording a goal and Shattenkirk producing a short-handed tally.

-Mark Olver had an assist Friday in Northern Michigan University’s 6-4 loss to Ferris State. Olver has totaled six points (2g/4a) in 13 games this year.

-Michigan netminder Billy Sauer made 27 saves Saturday against the University of Wisconsin, but the Badgers shut out the Wolverines by a 3-0 count.

-Victoriaville’s Joel Chouinard recorded points in all three of his team’s games last week. After notching an assist in a 5-4 win over Val-d’Or Tuesday, the defenseman scored his third goal of the season Friday in a 5-3 triumph over Gatineau. Chouinard closed out the week by tallying a goal and an assist as the Tigres topped Lewiston, 4-1.

-Lewiston netminder Peter Delmas stopped 24 shots and earned his fifth victory of the year Wednesday in the MAINEiacs’ 9-3 triumph over Shawinigan. Delmas’ performance helped put an end to the Cataractes’ 15-game winning streak.

-Kelsey Tessier scored an empty-netter (his seventh goal of the year) and added two assists in Quebec’s 5-3 win over Saint John on Saturday.

-Cameron Gaunce led Mississauga to a 4-3 win over the Erie Otters on Saturday by notching a goal and one assist. Gaunce ranks second on the team in both points (8g/9a) and plus/minus rating (+7).

-Despite making 30 saves, London netminder Trevor Cann was handed his first loss as a Knight on Friday. Owen Sound notched a 6-3 win over London, moving Cann’s record to 7-1 with a 2.24 goals-against average since being acquired from Peterborough. Defenseman Kevin Montgomery recorded an assist in the loss.

Nathan Condon scored twice, including the game-winner, in the Fargo Force’s 4-3 win over Sioux Falls on Wednesday. Condon then notched two helpers in another contest against Sioux Falls on Saturday - a 5-1 Force victory.
