Farm Report: Monsters Top Griffins

The Lake Erie Monsters split a pair of games last weekend, suffering a 6-3 setback to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday (March 7) before bouncing back with a 5-3 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins Saturday.

The Monsters scored four unanswered goals in the third period during their win over the Griffins, with Brad Richardson having a hand in each of those tallies. Richardson, who started the third period outburst with a short-handed goal before adding three assists, has recorded nine points (1g/8a) in the last five games.

Jeff Jillson notched the game-winning power-play tally at 14:22 and added an assist, while Dan DaSilva chipped in with a goal and an assist of his own. DaSilva has averaged a point-per-game over his last 10 contests, totaling four goals and six assists. Michael Wall stopped 42-of-45 shots to earn his fifth win in seven starts.

Chris Stewart – who leads the team with 19 goals – had two tallies and Brent Kelly also scored for Lake Erie during Friday’s loss to the Penguins.

The Monsters take to the road this week for a four-game, five-day trip beginning with Tuesday’s (March 11) match-up against the Iowa Stars.

-University of Minnesota forward Mike Carman recorded an assist Friday in the Gophers’ 4-1 win over the University of Minnesota Duluth. The contest marked the third straight game in which Carman had recorded a helper. The sophomore now has nine points (3g/6a) in 16 games.

-Nigel Williams scored the game-winning goal Saturday during Belleville’s 4-2 win over the Barrie Colts. The defenseman also earned an assist in the Bulls’ 4-3 shootout victory the previous night, giving him 43 points (15g/28a) in 64 games this season.

-Trevor Cann has won three of his last four starts with the Peterborough Petes. During that stretch, the netminder has posted a 1.97 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage while allowing two goals or less in three of his outings.

-London Knights defenseman Kevin Montgomery earned an assist Friday in his club’s 6-3 setback against the Erie Otters. Montgomery leads all London defensemen and ranks 18th among OHL blueliners with 40 points (8g/32a) in 60 contests.

-Calgary forward T.J. Galiardi tied a season-high with four points (2g/2a) last Tuesday in a 6-2 Hitmen victory over the Prince Albert Raiders. With 67 points (18g/49a) through 70 games, Galiardi ranks second among WHL rookies in scoring.

-Mississippi RiverKings goaltender Ian Keserich has gone 5-2 in his last seven contests. Keserich has posted a combined 13-8-3-0 mark with a 3.16 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage in 25 games with Mississippi and the Colorado Eagles.

-Indiana Ice forward Paul Carey scored a goal Saturday in his team’s 4-3 overtime loss to Sioux Falls. Carey has recorded points in eight of his last nine games, totaling 10 points (7g/3a) over that span to go along with a +5 rating.
