Farm Report: Monsters Earn Three Points

The Lake Erie Monsters totaled three points in three games over the past week. The team earned a 5-4 shootout victory against the Hershey Bears on Thursday (Feb. 14) and took home one point following a 4-3 shootout loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday. Sandwiched in between those two contests, the Monsters suffered a 6-3 setback Friday at the hands of the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Veteran forward Eric Healey scored the game-winner during Thursday’s shootout, while Philippe Dupuis, Michael Vernace, Brent Kelly and Dan DaSilva scored in regulation for Lake Erie. Michael Wall earned the victory in goal, stopping 26-of-30 shots.

On Friday, the Monsters held a 2-1 advantage over the Griffins after one period, but surrendered four unanswered goals. Wyatt Smith had a goal and an assist for Lake Erie, while DaSilva and Healey accounted for the remaining Monsters’ tallies.

The Monsters jumped out to a 3-1 lead against Hamilton on Saturday, but the Bulldogs scored two goals in the third period before topping Lake Erie in a shootout. Chris Stewart, Kenny Roche and Healey recorded a goal apiece for Lake Erie.

-Defenseman Colby Cohen earned an assist in Boston University’s 2-1 overtime victory over the University of Maine on Friday, extending his point streak to six games (2g/5a). On Saturday, forward Brandon Yip assisted on Colin Wilson’s overtime goal as the Terriers again topped the Black Bears in overtime, this time by a 1-0 count. Cohen ranks third among BU defenseman with 14 points (3g/11a), while Yip improved his season total to 16 points (8g/8a).

-Miami (Ohio) University’s Justin Mercier recorded two goals and an assist Friday against Ferris State University. Mercier ranks eighth in the country in goals-per-game, having notched 22 tallies in 32 contests (0.69).

-University of Michigan netminder Billy Sauer stopped 25-of-27 shots in a 4-2 win against Lake Superior State University Friday evening, improving his record to 22-3-3. Sauer ranks third in the nation with a .930 save percentage and sits fourth with a 1.85 goals-against average.

-Nigel Williams recorded a goal and one assist in Belleville’s 5-2 win over the Ottawa 67’s Friday, giving the defenseman 37 points (11g/26a) in 55 games this season. London Knights defenseman Kevin Montgomery matched Williams’ performance on Sunday, notching a goal and an assist in London’s 6-4 victory against Ottawa. Montgomery has 36 points (8g/28a) in 52 contests.

-Calgary Hitmen forward T.J. Galiardi has totaled three points (1g/2a) in his last four contests. Galiardi ranks third among WHL rookies in scoring with 57 points (15g/42a) through 62 games.

-Indiana Ice forward Paul Carey tallied an assist in his team’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Lincoln Stars on Friday, then notched two goals in a 6-4 win over the Tri-City Storm Saturday. Carey is tied for seventh in the USHL with 46 points (23g/23a) in 42 games.
