Farm Report: Delmas Earns Two Victories

Lake Erie Monsters

The Lake Erie Monsters are entering their third season as the American Hockey League affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. Following a short training camp and preseason schedule, the club will open the regular season against Rochester on Oct. 3. It will mark the first time in franchise history that Lake Erie has opened the season on the road.

The Monsters’ home opener will be contested on Oct. 10 when the club hosts Rockford.

Charlotte Checkers
The Charlotte Checkers will begin their 17th season of play as a member of the ECHL in 2009-10, and their first as a secondary affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. The Checkers open the regular season with an Oct. 17 tilt at South Carolina.

QMJHL
-Peter Delmas and Kelsey Tessier led Quebec to a pair of wins this past weekend. Delmas stopped 31 shots and Tessier notched an assist as the Remparts topped Shawinigan, 5-2, on Friday. Quebec then defeated Chicoutimi by a 5-4 count in a shootout Saturday. In that contest, Tessier, serving as the Remparts’ captain this year, netted a power-play goal and Delmas made 35 stops to pick up the win.

-Joel Chouinard picked up an assist in Victoriaville’s 6-4 loss to Chicoutimi on Friday. The blueliner is serving as an assistant captain for the Tigres.

WHL
-Tyson Barrie recorded points in each of Kelowna’s first two games of the 2009-10 campaign. The defenseman notched an assist Thursday in a 6-5 loss to Vancouver and then netted a power-play goal during the Rockets’ 6-1 loss at Tri-City on Saturday. Barrie is serving as an assistant captain for Kelowna this year.

-Defenseman Stefan Elliott picked up a pair of helpers as his Saskatoon squad earned a 5-1 win Friday over Regina.

OHL
-Brandon Maxwell, a 2009 Avalanche draftee, picked up the victory in his OHL debut on Friday by making 28 saves in Kitchener’s 6-5 comeback win over Kingston.

-Cameron Gaunce was held pointless in Mississauga’s season opener against Brampton on Friday. The defenseman is serving as the Majors’ captain this season.
