Nigel Williams and the Belleville Bulls have fallen into an 0-3 hole against the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL’s Rogers Conference Championship Series.
Williams scored a third-period goal on Wednesday (April 30) in a 5-2 loss at Kitchener and was then held without a point in Game Two on Friday, a contest which also ended in a 5-2 Rangers’ victory.
The defenseman had two helpers and finished with a +2 rating in Sunday’s Game Three, but the Bulls dropped a 5-3 decision at Kitchener. The Bulls will now try to stave off elimination in Tuesday’s Game 4, which will be held on the club’s home ice.
Both Belleville and Kitchener have already earned berths in the 2008 Memorial Cup, set for May 16-25.
IIHF World Championship Avalanche prospect Vladimir Denisov – who played with the Lake Erie Monsters during the 2007-08 campaign – is competing with Belarus at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship.
Denisov posted an assist and was second on the team with 23:16 of ice time Saturday in Belarus’ 6-5 loss to Sweden. The defenseman was then held pointless while playing 19:34 on Monday in a 2-1 loss to Switzerland.
Denisov is teammates with Avalanche defenseman Ruslan Salei at the event, while Colorado’s Peter Budaj (Slovakia) and Jaroslav Hlinka (Czech Republic) are also competing at the tournament.
NCAA Former University of Minnesota defenseman Derek Peltier earned the school’s Elwin Romnes Leadership and Sportsmanship Award Saturday at the team’s year-end awards banquet.
In 172 career games at Minnesota, Peltier totaled 73 points (15g/58a). The defenseman served as team captain during his senior campaign and led all Gopher blue liners with 21 points (4g/17a).
After completing his collegiate career, Peltier skated in six games with the Lake Erie Monsters after signing an Amateur Tryout Contract on April 1.
