The Belleville Bulls advanced to the 2008 Rogers Conference Championship Series after earning a 4-1 series victory over the Oshawa Generals in the Eastern Conference Championship.
Belleville defenseman Nigel Williams recorded two assists and a +2 rating in the Bulls’ 11-0 series-clinching victory during Wednesday’s (April 23) Game Five. He now owns 12 points (5g/7a) in 14 games to rank third among league defenseman in playoff scoring.
The win also gives Belleville a spot in the 2008 Memorial Cup. It marks the third time Belleville has reached the OHL Finals, while the appearance in the Memorial Cup will be the second in franchise history.
The Bulls will face the Kitchener Rangers in the Rogers Conference Championship Series beginning Wednesday (April 30). Both teams have already wrapped up a berth in the 2008 Memorial Cup.
WHL T.J. Galiardi and the Calgary Hitmen were swept out of the WHL Eastern Conference Finals in four games by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes shut out the Hitmen by a 6-0 score on Tuesday (April 22) and closed out the series the following night with a 4-2 victory. Galiardi notched an assist in Game Four.
The forward, who finished second among league rookies with 70 points (18g/52a) during the regular season, still sits atop the WHL’s Playoff scoring chart with 24 points (5g/19a) in 16 contests through Monday.
