Monsters Earn Overtime Victory

The Lake Erie Monsters posted a 1-2 mark last week, dropping a 2-1 decision to Toronto on Wednesday (Nov. 21), followed by a 3-2 loss to Rochester on Friday before earning a 5-4 overtime victory over Manitoba Saturday.

Chris Stewart scored Lake Erie’s lone goal on Wednesday, while Matt Hussey and Eric Healey got on the scoreboard during Friday’s contest.

In Saturday’s victory, Wes O’Neill, Mark McCutcheon, David Jones and Mark Rycroft all scored in regulation for the Monsters before Stewart notched the game-winning power-play tally at the 2:45 mark of the extra frame.

Jason Bacashihua earned the victory in goal for Lake Erie, stopping 42-of-46 shots.

Lake Erie, which has posted a 3-3 record in its last six contests, will travel to Toronto on Friday before returning home to face Philadelphia and Syracuse on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

NCAA
-University of Michigan goaltender Billy Sauer ran his season record to 13-1-0 with a pair of victories over the weekend at the College Hockey Showcase in Ann Arbor, Mich. Sauer made 24 stops in a 3-2 win over the University of Wisconsin on Friday and followed up that performance with a 26-save effort Saturday in Michigan’s 5-1 win over the University of Minnesota during the Showcase Finale. As a result, Sauer picked up his third consecutive CCHA Goaltender of the Week award.

-Justin Mercier recorded two goals and added one assist in Miami (Ohio) University’s 11-1 non-conference victory over Canisius College on Saturday. The junior forward owns a team-high 12 goals and ranks third on the squad with 16 points.

-Boston University’s Brandon Yip tallied two points (1g/1a) in the Terriers’ 6-3 home win over Cornell on Saturday evening.

CHL
-Colorado Eagles netminder Ian Keserich earned his second win of the season Saturday against Amarillo. Keserich stopped 35-of-37 shots in the victory to improve his record to 2-1-1-0.

OHL
- Peterborough Petes goaltender Trevor Cann suited up for Team OHL on Monday night in the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge. Cann stopped 16-of-18 shots as Team OHL topped Russia by a 4-2 count. The win gave the OHL a two-game sweep over the Russians.

-London defenseman Kevin Montgomery scored a power-play goal and added an assist in the Knights’ 6-5 shootout victory over the Oshawa Generals on Friday.

-Nigel Williams picked up two assists as the Saginaw Spirit split contests with the Sudbury Wolves and Peterborough Petes over the weekend. Williams leads all Saginaw defensemen with 23 points (5g/18a) in 24 games while carrying a +2 rating.

WHL
-T.J. Galiardi racked up three assists in as many games last week for the Calgary Hitmen. Galiardi, who has 22 points (6g/16a) through 29 games, has recorded at least one point in eight of his last nine contests.

USHL
-Paul Carey notched a goal and one assist on Friday at Chicago, giving the Indiana Ice forward 25 points (16g/9a) through 16 games.
