Three Players Score First Professional Goal for Lake Erie

The Monsters dropped three games this past weekend during a back-to-back-to-back stint. Matt Hussey and Cody McLeod led the Lake Erie offense over the weekend with a goal and an assist apiece. Codey Burki, T.J. Hensick and Cody McCormick each recorded their first professional goal over the weekend for the Monsters.

Lake Erie will host the Iowa Stars on Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling to Syracuse on Saturday to face the Crunch.

-The University of Minnesota announced on Monday that junior forward Ryan Stoa will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury. Stoa suffered the injury during the first period of Minnesota’s 4-3 victory over Michigan on Saturday in the Ice Breaker Invitational championship game.

On Friday, Stoa notched a goal and one assist while Gopher captain Derek Peltier tallied two helpers in Minnesota’s 4-3 victory over RPI.

-Billy Sauer recorded 19 saves in No. 9 Michigan’s 4-3 overtime victory over No. 2 Boston College at the Ice Breaker Invitational.

-2007 Avalanche draft picks Colby Cohen and Kevin Shattenkirk made their collegiate debuts with Boston University this past weekend. Cohen registered one assist, while both defenseman posted an even plus/minus rating during the weekend.

-Justin Mercier recorded his first goal of the 2007-08 campaign in Miami (Ohio) University’s 2-1 victory over the University of Vermont on Friday.

-Brad Malone recorded his first collegiate point – a third period assist – during North Dakota’s 6-0 victory over defending National Champion Michigan State University Saturday during the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game in Grand Forks, N.D.

-Ohio State’s Tom Fritsche had a pair of assists as the Buckeyes were crowned champions of the Lefty McFadden Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.

CHL
-Ian Keserich earned a pair of preseason victories in goal for the Colorado Eagles. Keserich, who came on in relief during both contests, stopped 42-of-43 shots in just over 60 minutes of work for the Eagles against their in-state rival, the Rocky Mountain Rage.

OHL
-After notching one assist versus the Owen Sound Attack on Friday, Kevin Montgomery recorded three helpers in London’s 8-2 victory over the Ottawa 67’s on Sunday evening. Montgomery’s seven points (all assists) tie him for second on the team.

-Nigel Williams recorded an assist in the Saginaw Spirit’s 3-2 victory over the Barrie Colts on Saturday. Williams is tied for eighth among OHL defenseman in scoring with 10 points (2g/8a).

-Trevor Cann split a pair of games in goal for the Peterborough Petes this past weekend. After making 46 saves in a loss to Belleville on Saturday, Cann stopped 32-of-34 shots in a 3-2 victory over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors on Sunday. The netminder currently ranks sixth in the OHL with a .915 save percentage.
