Duchene Earns Play Of The Week

by Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche
Matt Duchene earned Avalanche Play of the Week honors for the Dec. 10-16 timeframe in an extremely tight race with Greg Mauldin and Tomas Fleischmann.

Duchene's game-winning goal on Dec. 13 against Chicago earned 34.50% of fan votes, barely edging Mauldin's short-handed tally against Atlanta on Dec. 10 (33.62%) and Fleischmann's goal that completed a hat trick in Washington on Dec. 11 (31.88%).

The play now automatically qualifies for Colorado’s year-end “Play of the Year” bracket-style tournament – to be determined by Avalanche fans. Be sure to check back each Friday during the season, as three new choices for the Avalanche’s “Play of the Week” will be posted for you to vote upon.

Duchene Caps Comeback – 12/13 vs. Chicago
Exactly one minute after Tomas Fleischmann tied the Avs with the Blackhawks at 5-5 late in the third period, Matt Duchene scored the eventual game-winning goal. Fleischmann set up the play by first stealing a Brent Seabrook pass behind the Chicago goal and skating to the bottom of the right circle. Duchene snaked his way between a pair of Chicago defenders and buried a pass from Fleischmann to cap Colorado’s comeback.
