Colorado Prospect Update - April 20

by Aaron Lopez / Colorado Avalanche
Five Avalanche prospects are still competing in postseason play, with a pair of them currently going head-to-head in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series.

Kelsey Tessier and the Quebec Remparts opened their semifinal series against Cedric McNicoll and the Shawinigan Cataractes on Friday, April 17.

Tessier notched an unassisted second-period goal in Game 1, helping lead the Remparts to a 4-2 victory. McNicoll assisted on one of Shawinigan’s two tallies.

Both players were then held off the scoresheet in Game 2, a 4-3 Shawinigan victory that evened the series at 1-1.

McNicoll leads his club and ranks sixth overall in the QMJHL with 17 points (7g/10a) in 11 postseason contests, while Tessier is fifth on the Remparts’ scoring chart with 11 points (9g/2a) in 14 games.

Game 3 of the best-of-seven series will be contested on Tuesday.

Trevor Cann, Kevin Montgomery and the London Knights are currently in the middle of a wild match-up with the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League’s Western Conference Championship Series. Each of the first three games between the clubs has been decided in overtime.

Cann made 30 saves on Wednesday in the opening game of the series, but the Knights dropped a 4-3 decision. London then bounced back with a 6-5 victory on Friday, during which Cann stopped 27-of-32 shots. Montgomery chipped in with an assist for the Knights.

Game 3 went to Windsor by a 5-4 score on Sunday, with Cann turning aside 35-of-40 shots in a losing effort. Game 4 of the Western Conference Championship Series is slated for Monday night.

Nathan Condon and the Fargo Force are set to take on the Lincoln Stars in the second round of the Clark Cup Playoffs. The best-of-five series will open on Wednesday in Lincoln. The Force advanced to the second round by sweeping the defending Clark Cup Champion Omaha Lancers last week.
