DENVER (AP) - Peter Budaj stopped 39 shots in posting his second shutout of the season and Milan Hejduk had a goal and an assist as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-0 on Tuesday night.
The Ducks, who came into the game with the second-best mark in the Western Conference, have now lost three straight games. They also haven't scored in two contests - going 139 minutes, 16 seconds without a goal.
Paul Stastny added a goal for the Avalanche, who won for the second time in six games.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere finished with 27 saves.
Andrew Brunette, Joe Sakic and Jordan Leopold all had assists for Colorado.
Budaj was back in net after being pulled in the second period against Dallas on Sunday. Budaj gave up four goals before Jose Theodore relieved him.
But Budaj came up with one big save after another against a Ducks team that was second in the West in scoring at 3.21 goals a game. It was Budaj's fourth career shutout.
He beat Columbus 3-0 on Nov. 17, stopping 27 shots.
Stastny tied Anaheim's Dustin Penner for fourth in goals among rookies with his 18th of the season. Stastny is also third in points with 47.
Stastny's goal staked Colorado to a 2-0 lead despite the team being outshot 15-4 in the second period. He scored after picking up a rebound of a shot by Hejduk and backhanding the puck into the net.
Hejduk gave himself an early birthday present by scoring his 18th goal in the first period. Hejduk, who turns 31 on Wednesday, skated in front of the net on a Colorado power play and rifled a shot between the legs of Giguere.
The Avalanche had been outscored 8-2 in the first period of their last three games.
Notes: Colorado coach Joel Quenneville gave the struggling RW Marek Svatos the night off. Svatos has only two goals since the beginning of December. ... The Avalanche will play 14 of their next 19 games on the road. ... Giguere is 14-6 in his last 20 starts. ... Anaheim D Chris Pronger hasn't scored in seven games since coming back from a broken foot on Jan. 28. He has three assists in that span.
