Colorado Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj was named to the 2010 Slovakian Olympic Team, it was announced today. The Avalanche netminder will represent Slovakia at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games held Feb. 12-28 in Vancouver.
Budaj is making his second straight appearance at the Olympics, as he previously competed for Slovakia at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy. Budaj posted a 2-1-0 record with a 2.01 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in three starts during the tournament.
Budaj, 27, has appeared in 10 games for Colorado this season, compiling a 4-3-1 record with a 2.22 GAA and .927 Sv%. He is 3-2-0 in his last five starts with a 1.21 GAA and .962 Sv% (298 mins, 159 shots, 6 goals). The Banska Bystrica, Slovakia native was Colorado’s first selection (second round, 63rd overall) in the 2001 Entry Draft. He owns an 85-68-22 career record in 192 appearances in the NHL, ranking him fourth on the franchise’s all-time wins list.
