DALLAS--The Colorado Avalanche used its first of two fifth-round 2018 NHL Draft picks on Brandon Saigeon. The Avs picked the Hamilton Bulldogs forward at No. 140 overall on Saturday at American Airlines Center.
Saigeon, 20, just wrapped up his fourth season in the OHL with the Bulldogs franchise. He has 159 points (68 goals and 91 assists) in 236 career Ontario League contests.

The Grimsby, Ontario, native had 35 goals and 35 assists in 65 games last season for Hamilton. In the OHL Playoffs, Saigeon recorded 25 points (18 goals and seven assists) in 21 contests to help the team win the league championship.
In the Memorial Cup, he had four assists in four games.
Saigeon was in his last year of draft eligibility. He attended the Edmonton Oilers' training camp in 2017 as an amateur tryout.
Also in the fifth round, Colorado had the 146th overall pick, which was used on Russian defenseman Danila Zhuravlyov.
