Avs To Appear Nine Times on National TV

by Staff Writer / Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche is scheduled to appear in at least nine nationally televised games during the 2009-10 season, beginning with the club’s regular season home opener against the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 1.

On opening night, VERSUS will present the Washington Capitals visiting the Boston Bruins at 5:00 p.m. MT, followed by the Avalanche hosting the Sharks at 8:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the club will officially retire number 19 in honor of team captain Joe Sakic.

In addition to its opening-night contest, the Avalanche will appear on VERSUS two other times – a Dec. 9 contest versus Minnesota and a March 1 game against Detroit that will also be carried on TSN2.

Along with that March 1 contest against the Red Wings, four other Avalanche games will appear on TSN or TSN2 throughout the course of the 2009-10 campaign.

Colorado will be featured on CBC’s “Hockey Night in Canada” twice, as both the Avalanche’s Nov. 14 contest against Vancouver and Feb. 6 game against Edmonton will be carried by CBC.

RDS, which will once again telecast all 82 Montreal Canadiens games along with 39 additional contests, will carry the Avalanche’s Oct. 15 contest in Montreal.

The Avalanche may also appear on The NHL on NBC’s “Game of the Week” in a match-up against the Dallas Stars on March 14 under the network’s flex scheduling. Thirteen days prior to the schedule game, a game will be selected for the broadcast on NBC.

NHL Network will televise up to 78 live games for its American audience and up to 40 live games for its Canadian viewers this season. More information on the dates and times of NHL Network’s 2009-10 schedules will be released in the near future.
