Avs' Play of the Week - Feb. 27-March 5

by ColoradoAvalanche.com - Official Site of the Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche
Let your voice be heard in selecting Colorado’s “Play of the Week” each week during the season.

Goals from Ryan Smyth and John-Michael Liles are nominated this week, along with a big hit by assistant captain Ian Laperriere.

We’ve offered up three choices, and now it's your turn to choose the top play by voting on the poll below or on the homepage of ColoradoAvalanche.com. At the end of the season, a bracket-style tournament will be held to determine – once again, through fan voting – the Avalanche’s “Play of the Year”.

Check out this week’s three nominees, and be sure to vote for your favorite by Monday at 12:00 p.m. MT.

Smyth’s Breakaway – 2/28 @ NY Rangers
Ryan Smyth put the Avs on the scoreboard during the second period of the club’s game against the Rangers with this goal. After taking the puck away from defenseman Dmitri Kalinin near the blue line, Smyth skated in all alone and put on a few dekes before tucking the puck past Henrik Lundqvist.

Liles Shows Patience – 3/4 vs. Detroit
Milan Hejduk started this play by moving around Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk before making a cross-ice feed to John-Michael Liles. Stationed at the left point, Liles waited just long enough to find an opening before blasting a shot past Ty Conklin.

Lappy Runs Over Downey – 3/4 vs. Detroit
Midway through the first period, Avalanche assistant captain Ian Laperriere threw a big hit on Detroit’s Aaron Downey. While Downey had his head down looking for the puck along the side wall, Laperriere charged in and laid out a clean, hard hit.
