Avalanche Hosting You Can Play Night

The Colorado Avalanche is hosting You Can Play Night on Sunday, Feb. 19, as the Avs take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at 6 p.m. at Pepsi Center.
The event is one of many included in the NHL's Hockey Is For Everyone initiative, which runs the entire month of February, and is focused on celebrating members of the local LGBTQ community.

Tickets to You Can Play Night are available here. A portion of every ticket purchased via the link will be donated to the You Can Play Project.
The NHL and NHL Players' Association have partnered with the You Can Play Project to ensure safety and inclusion for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ athletes, coaches and fans.
The You Can Play Project was founded in 2012 by Patrick Burke, the NHL's Director of Player Safety. Patrick's brother, Brendan, came out as gay in 2009 and died in an auto accident several months later. The You Can Play Project was created in his honor.

The Hockey Is For Everyone initiative will run for the next 28 days, and activities will focus on raising awareness on areas such as LGBTQ; ethnicity and gender equality; socio-economic status and those with disabilities. The idea is to support any teammate, coach or fan who brings heart, energy and passion to the rink.
The Avalanche is working to provide a positive and inclusive environment for players, their families and fans of every race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic status and to those with disabilities. Hockey Is For Everyone uses the game of hockey--and the NHL's global influence--to drive positive social change and foster more inclusive communities.
