The Avs Better Halves Charity Brunch & Fashion Show raised over $80,000 for children's charity beneficiaries including The Children's Hospital, Teammates for Kids and Kroenke Sports Charities.
The 10th annual Avs Better Halves brunch, which was held on Sunday, April 1 at the Hyatt Regency in the Denver Tech Center, put the total amount raised by this event for local children's charities over the $600,000 mark.
Avalanche players and coaches, along with their better halves served breakfast to those in attendance. Following breakfast, Avalanche players and coaches participated in a fashion show produced by Nieman Marcus with ambassadors from The Children's Hospital. The ambassadors are patients of The Children's Hospital and ranged in age from 14 months to 20 years old.
In addition to the brunch and fashion show, those in attendance were able to purchase "mystery boxes" which contained gifts from the Avs and one lucky winner received a diamond and black mother of pearl necklace, courtesy of Chevalier Jewelers. A silent auction was held for gift baskets created by Avs Better Halves which contained gifts and items representing an Avalanche player or coach's "favorite things". Unique items include favorite DVDs, game-worn and autographed equipment, dinner/golf certificates, and electronic items such as iPods, Sony PSPs and a laptop computer.
Since its inception in 1995, the Colorado Avalanche Community Fund has granted over $11 million to hundreds of Colorado non-profit agencies.
