Yip, 24, spent the past four years at Boston University (Hockey East), where he totaled 108 points (45g/63a) in 139 career games. As a senior in 2008-09, he helped the Terriers capture their fifth national championship by posting 43 points (20g/23a) in 45 contests. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound right wing finished second on BU’s scoring chart in goals and fourth in points last season.
“Brandon had a very strong year at Boston University and wrapped up his collegiate career by serving as a leader on a championship team,” said Avalanche General Manager Greg Sherman. “He has developed very well over the past four seasons and is ready to begin his pro career.”

A native of Vancouver, B.C., Yip was Colorado’s seventh selection (eighth round, 239th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He was named Hockey East Rookie of the Year following the 2005-06 campaign after leading all conference freshmen in scoring with 31 points (9g/22a) in 39 contests.
