Colorado Closes Canadian Trip in Ottawa

In the finale of a five-game road swing through Canada, the Colorado Avalanche (21-17-8) takes on the Ottawa Senators (17-24-5) at Canadian Tire Centre on Wednesday. It is the second and last regular-season matchup between the non-conference opponents in the 2018-19 campaign.
Colorado has a 16-13-3 record in 32 all-time matchups against the Senators since the 1995-96 season, with a 7-8-1 mark as the visiting team. Gabriel Landeskog paces current Avalanche skaters with 14 career points (four goals, 10 assists) in 12 games against Ottawa, including a three-point outing (one goal, two assists) in the last matchup against the Senators on Oct. 26 at Pepsi Center.
The Avs return to Denver after the contest for its next five contests, starting Saturday at 1:00 p.m. MT against the Los Angeles Kings.

Last Time Out

The Avalanche battled back from a 2-0 deficit against the Toronto Maple Leafs to earn a 6-3 victory on Monday at Scotiabank Arena. Carl Soderberg tallied his first career hat trick while Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Calvert found the back of the net in the win after trailing 2-0 in the second period. Tyson Barrie, J.T. Compher, Colin Wilson and Ian Cole each contributed an assist and Colorado netminder Semyon Varlamov stopped 17 shots to earn his 12th victory of the season.
The Senators fell to the San Jose Sharks 4-1 at SAP Center on Saturday. Ryan Dzingel scored his 18th goal of the season, tying him with Matt Duchene for second on the club this year. Bobby Ryan added a helper to extend his point streak (three goals, five assists) to eight contests while Zach Smith registered his 11th assist of the season. Ottawa goaltender Anders Nilsson made 28 saves in the loss.

Last Time They Met

Colorado fought back from a 2-0 disadvantage after the first period to win 6-3 at Pepsi Center on Oct. 26. The Avalanche went 2-for-3 on the power play and Mikko Rantanen paced the club with four points (one goal, three assists), while Gabriel Landeskog (one goal, two assists), Nathan MacKinnon (one goal, two assists) and Tyson Barrie (three assists) each had three-point performances. Samuel Girard, Carl Soderberg and Matt Nieto tallied a marker each in the victory. Philipp Grubauer made 21 saves between the pipes for Colorado and Craig Anderson stopped 31 shots for Ottawa.

With a short-handed tally from Carl Soderberg in the win against the Maple Leafs on Monday, the Avs share third in the NHL with six short-handed goals during the 2018-19 campaign. Last season, Colorado totaled seven markers while killing a penalty which shared 13th in the league.

The Colorado captain tallied a goal against the Maple Leafs to get the club on the board and spark a comeback that resulted in a 6-3 win on Monday. The Central Division's "Last Men In" selection for the 2019 NHL All-Star Game now has points in seven of his last 10 outings and shares fifth in the league with 28 markers through 46 appearances this season, a career-best for him.
Ottawa: Right Wing Mark Stone
The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native has a team-high 48 points (20 goals, 28 assists) through 46 contests on the year, including eight points (four goals, four assists) in his last nine games. Stone has reached the 50-point plateau in each of his last four seasons in the league and currently has 297 career points (115 goals, 182 assists), all as a member of the Senators.
