Kroenke Sports Charities awarded the 2008 Chopper Travaglini Award to the players and coaches of the Colorado Avalanche on the ice at Pepsi Center on Thursday prior to the start of the Avalanche game against the Edmonton Oilers.
The Chopper Travaglini Award was created in 1999 in honor of Chopper’s commitment and dedication to children. Given annually, the award recognizes outstanding athletes, coaches and team personnel who best emulate Chopper’s generous and compassionate spirit. The award winner exemplifies a true understanding of the importance of giving back to children.
Since 1995, Avalanche charitable endeavors have raised close to $12 million for families and children in Colorado.
The entire team was presented with the Chopper award because of their 100 percent participation for two consecutive years in the Teammates for Kids Foundation as well as their efforts to support the initiatives of KSE Charities. The Teammates for Kids Foundation, co-founded in 1999 by Garth Brooks, exists to develop and implement innovative concepts that generate funds for the benefit of children's charities.

Kroenke Sports Charities is committed to improving the lives of families and children in Colorado. Our strategic community investment is in many forms: education, health and youth sports programs, donations of autographed merchandise and tickets, grants, appearances by our players, coaches, alumni and the personal service of our employees through KSE C.A.R.E. and individual efforts. Altitude Sports & Entertainment has broadened our community efforts through its airing of Public Service Announcements for a variety of organizations throughout the year. The donation of airtime to promote community agencies is valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars each month. Our players, coaches and staff are active participants in the community, dedicating over 1,000 hours of their time to visiting schools, hosting youth sports clinics, lifting the spirits of young patients in the hospital and attending fundraising events that benefit the Colorado community.
