Avalanche Recalls Boychuk

by Staff Writer / Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has recalled defenseman Johnny Boychuk from the Lake Erie Monsters, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate.

The 6-2, 225-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta, has played in 25 games with the Monsters this season, recording nine points (4g/5a), second among Monsters’ defensemen. He leads Lake Erie blueliners with three power play goals.

Boychuk, 23, was a second-round selection of the Avalanche (61st overall) in the 2002 Entry Draft. He appeared in 80 games with the Avalanche affiliate in Albany last season, tallying 28 points (10g/18a) and a career-high 125 penalty minutes.

In a related move, the Avalanche placed forward Ryan Smyth on the injured reserve list retroactive to December 31.
