Byram, 19, is one of six returning members from Canada's championship team in 2020 where he contributed two assists in seven games. The No. 4 overall pick by Colorado in the 2019 NHL Draft, Byram had a point-per-game pace for the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League in 2019-20, contributing 14 goals and 38 assists in 50 contests. The Cranbrook, British Columbia, native has also played for Canada at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, 2018 IIIHF U18 World Championship and 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Byram was a member of the Avs' 2020 postseason roster and was with the club throughout the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Edmonton hub city this past summer.
Newhook, 19, is on his first national junior team for Canada after being one of the final cuts at last year's selection camp. The St. John's, Newfoundland, native recorded 19 goals and 23 assists in 34 games for Boston College in 2019-20 and won the Tim Taylor Award as the top rookie in the NCAA last season. He was also named to the Hockey East's All-Rookie Team and Second All-Star Team and picked up conference Rookie of the Year honors as well. Chosen at No. 16 overall by the Avalanche in the 2019 draft, Newhook has competed internationally for Canada at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, 2018 World Junior-A Challenge and 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship.
Barron, 19, is one of the newest members of the Avalanche organization after he was picked 25th overall in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft. A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Barron is in his fourth season with his hometown Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and is in his first as team captain. The defenseman has seven points (one goal and six assists) in eight QMJHL games this season after producing 19 points in 34 contests in 2019-20. He has played for Canada at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and won a gold medal at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
The 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2020, and runs through Jan 5, 2021. Canada is the host of this year's event, with all games being played at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
