Cedric McNicoll and the Shawinigan Cataractes have split the first two contests of their President Cup Final Series with the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
Drummondville scored with only 27 seconds remaining in the third period on Friday, taking Game 1 by a 2-1 score.
McNicoll then scored twice, added an assist and was named the contest’s First Star as the Cataractes earned a 5-3 victory in Saturday’s Game 2. The Longueuil, Quebec native’s second tally of the contest, a power-play goal in the middle frame, stood up as the game-winner.
The Shawinigan victory snapped Drummondville’s 20-game winning streak (seven regular season, 13 postseason), which was a QMJHL record for consecutive victories spanning the end of the regular season and continuing into the playoffs.
