Avalanche Play Of The Week: March 18-24

by Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche
ColoradoAvalanche.com is again asking for your help in determining the Avalanche's "Play of the Week" each week during the regular season. At the end of the year, a bracket-style tournament will be held to determine, via fan voting, the Avalanche's "Play of the Year."

Ryan Stoa, Daniel Winnik and Brian Elliott are this week's nominees.

Voting ends on Monday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m. MT, so be sure to cast your ballot today!

Stoa’s Shootout Winner – 3/19 @ Edmonton
Ryan Stoa snapped the Avalanche’s winless skid by scoring the lone shootout goal against the Oilers. Lining up for his first career attempt following four unsuccessful shots by Edmonton and three by the Avs, Stoa made a quick shot fake and moved to his backhand before putting home the winner.

Winnik’s Heroics – 3/22 vs. Columbus
Daniel Winnik came through in the clutch against Columbus, scoring with 3.3 seconds left in the third period to send the contest to overtime. Matt Duchene won an offensive zone faceoff back to Erik Johnson, who put a wrister on net. Winnik was in prime position for the rebound and knocked home his 10th goal of the season to guarantee at least a point for the Avs.

Elliott Saves The Day – 3/22 vs. Columbus
Avalanche goalie Brian Elliott came up with a huge pad save early in the extra session against the Blue Jackets to keep Colorado’s hopes alive. Columbus’ Derick Brassard made a great cross-ice pass to Kris Russell for what looked to be a sure goal, but Elliott displayed his athleticism by kicking out his right pad to make the stop.
