ColoradoAvalanche.com is asking for your help in determining the Avalanche's "Play of the Week" each week during the regular season. At the end of the year, a bracket-style tournament will be held to determine, via fan voting, the Avalanche's "Play of the Year."
Shootout goals by Matt Hendricks and Chris Stewart, along with back-to-back saves by Craig Anderson, are this week's nominees.
Voting ends on Monday, Jan. 18 at 3:00 p.m. MT, so be sure to cast your ballot today!
Hendricks Ends Marathon – 1/9 @ Buffalo Matt Hendricks dug deep into his bag of tricks, bringing out an old move he used back in high school to help the Avs top the Sabres in a shootout. As the tiebreaker stretched to an 11th round, Hendricks made a big shot fake – complete with a leg kick – to get Buffalo netminder Patrick Lalime down on his pads. From there, the forward went to his backhand to put home the shootout winner.
Anderson Stops Two – 1/11 @ Calgary Craig Anderson made several brilliant stops during his 44-save performance against Calgary, and this one was among the best. With the teams tied, 2-2, in the third period and Calgary on a power play, Anderson first stopped a Daymond Langkow snap shot from the right circle and the moved across his crease in time to get his blocker on Mark Giordano’s follow-up attempt.
Stewart’s Slick Move – 1/11 @ Calgary After scoring a goal to tie the game in regulation, Chris Stewart was called upon during the third round of the Avalanche’s shootout against the Flames. The forward skated in with the puck on his forehand before tucking a quick backhander between the legs of Calgary goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff for the shootout deciding tally.
