Avalanche Play Of The Week: Jan. 7-13

by Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche is again asking for your help in determining the Avalanche's "Play of the Week" each week during the regular season. At the end of the year, a bracket-style tournament will be held to determine, via fan voting, the Avalanche's "Play of the Year."

Milan Hejduk, Peter Budaj and Matt Duchene are this week's nominees.

Voting ends on Monday, Jan. 17 at 3:00 p.m. MT, so be sure to cast your ballot today!

Hejduk’s Late Tally – 1/8 vs. NY Islanders
Time was winding down in regulation and the Avs were trailing the Islanders by a goal when Milan Hejduk found a rebound and used a backhander to beat New York netminder Kevin Poulin with four seconds left. He became the first Av to score a tying goal that late in regulation since Joe Sakic scored with one second left to force OT on Feb. 21, 1997 at Edmonton.

Budaj Denies Zetterberg – 1/10 vs. Detroit
In a tight game against the Red Wings, Peter Budaj made several key saves to eventually help the Avs earn a 5-4 victory. Colorado was up 4-1 when Detroit went on a power play late in the first period. Just seconds into the man-advantage, Henrik Zetterberg nearly tipped home a centering feed from Johan Franzen. Fortunately, Budaj reacted quickly enough and got his stick on Zetterberg’s attempt.

Dutchy Finishes Give-And-Go – 1/10 vs Detroit
Matt Duchene netted his second goal of the night following a nice give-and-go with Tomas Fleischmann. The sophomore out-muscled Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg for a loose puck at the red line and went on a 2-on-1 with Fleischmann. After taking a pass from Duchene, Fleischmann sent it right back to his linemate for the tally.
