Stewart Barrels In – 1/18 vs. Calgary Rookie forward Chris Stewart gave the Avs a 2-0 lead over the Flames with his fifth goal of the season. Stewart grabbed the puck and barreled in on a breakaway, fending off a charging Adam Pardy before beating McElhinney with a low shot.
Smyth’s 300th – 1/18 vs. Calgary With the Avalanche short-handed, Ryan Smyth was joined by Ben Guite on a 2-on-1 rush toward the Calgary goal. After streaking up the right wing, the Banff, Alberta, native elected to take the shot himself, putting a wrister on net that handcuffed Calgary netminder Curtis McElhinney for his 300th career goal.
Hejduk’s 300th – 1/18 vs. Calgary Milan Hejduk joined Smyth in the 300-goal club just a few minutes later when he snapped off a quick wrist shot from the left faceoff circle with the Avalanche on a power play. Hejduk also became just the fourth player in franchise history to record 300 career goals.
