Avalanche Play of the Week: Feb. 5-11

by - Official Site of the Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche is asking for your help in determining the Avalanche's "Play of the Week" each week during the regular season. At the end of the year, a bracket-style tournament will be held to determine, via fan voting, the Avalanche's "Play of the Year."

Goals from Paul Stastny, Chris Durno and Kyle Cumiskey are nominated this week.

Voting ends on Monday, Feb. 15 at 3:00 p.m. MT, so be sure to cast your ballot today!

Hard Work Pays Off – 2/8 vs. St. Louis
Paul Stastny scored a pretty goal that was set up by some hard work from his linemates. Chris Stewart put on a very aggressive forecheck, causing St. Louis’ Carlo Colaiacovo to cough up the puck in his own zone. Marek Svatos got to it first and made a pass over to Paul Stastny, who went forehand to backhand to elude a St. Louis defender before putting the puck into the top right corner of the net.

Durno’s Dive – 2/10 vs. Atlanta
The third goal of Chris Durno’s NHL career couldn’t have come at a better time. With the Avs trailing the Atlanta Thrashers by a 3-2 count late in the third period, Durno dove out to reach a loose puck and threw a backhand attempt past Atlanta netminder Johan Hedberg to send the game to overtime.

Cumiskey Quick In OT – 2/10 vs. Atlanta
Kyle Cumiskey scored the game-winning goal just nine seconds into overtime against Atlanta. After Paul Stastny won the opening faceoff in the extra session, Cumiskey skated up-ice, weaving through all four Atlanta defenders before making a quick move to beat Thrashers goaltender Johan Hedberg and give Colorado a 4-3 victory.
