Avalanche Play of the Week: Dec.25-31

by - Official Site of the Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche is asking for your help in determining the Avalanche's "Play of the Week" each week during the regular season. At the end of the year, a bracket-style tournament will be held to determine, via fan voting, the Avalanche's "Play of the Year."

Saves by Peter Budaj and Craig Anderson and a goal by Ryan O'Reilly are this week's nominees.

Voting ends on Monday, Jan. 4 at 3:00 p.m. MT, so be sure to cast your ballot today!

Budaj Plays Big Late – 12/26 vs. Dallas
The Avalanche led the Stars late during their first contest after the holiday break, and Peter Budaj made sure it stayed that way. With under three minutes remaining and the Avs holding a two-goal lead Budaj made four consecutive saves, including left pad saves on a backhand attempt by Mike Modano and a forehand rebound by Jamie Benn, to maintain his team’s advantage.

Anderson’s Snow Angel – 12/30 @ Ottawa
Ottawa’s Ryan Shannon and Alex Kovalev flew up ice and put some pressure on Craig Anderson, but the Avalanche netminder sprawled out to keep the Senators at bay. Kovalev took a pair of point-blank shots, but Anderson stretched out his right pad to stop the first and then went into a snow angel to deny the follow-up attempt.

O’Reilly Downs Sens – 12/30 @ Ottawa
After going 16 consecutive games without a point, rookie Ryan O’Reilly netted the eventual game-winner against the Senators. The play began when Alexandre Picard misplayed a pass at his own blue line and Brandon Yip pounced on it, starting a 3-on-2 rush up the ice. Trailing on the play, O’Reilly deposited the rebound of a Yip centering attempt that was redirected by Ottawa netminder Pascal Leclaire.
