BUFFALO, N.Y.--The Colorado Avalanche selected goaltender Adam Werner with the 131st overall selection in the fifth round of the NHL Draft on Saturday at First Niagara Center.
The 6-foot-5, 198-pound netminder played 30 games with Farjestad BK's junior team in Sweden this past year. He had a 2.49 goals-against average and .916 save percentage during the regular season and went on to play in five playoffs contests as well.
The Mariestad, Sweden, native played in two games for his country at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament last August. He appeared in one contest in previous year.
He is expected to play for IF Bjorkloven of the Swedish Allsvenskan league next season.
