DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club honored four distinguished U.S. war veterans prior to its game with the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night in advance of Veterans Day on November 11.
The Avalanche introduced four US World War II veterans, representing each of the two theaters of operation.
Also in attendance:
Elmer "Lucky" McGinty - Served with the Mighty 8th Air Force in England. Lucky participated in 29 missions over Nazi Europe as a B-17 waist gunner
Rigney Sackley Jr. - Served with the Mighty 8th Air Force
Joe Paine - Served with the US Navy during the battles of Iwo Jima, Guam and Okinawa
The veterans' appearance was sponsored by The Greatest Generations Foundation (www.tggf.us) a local non-profit educational organization whose mission is to raise funds so that veterans can revisit their battlefields and to educate individuals on the contributions of men and women who were part of The Greatest Generations.
