Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has always stood for more than just providing a great fan experience, and that was never more evident than Wednesday night, through a special on-ice presentation during the Avalanche’s 2013 preseason opener against Anaheim.
The state of Colorado has been hit hard in the past week with historic flooding and subsequent catastrophic damage, and many individuals and corporations have stepped forward with donations to help in the relief effort.
Kroenke Sports Charities, on behalf of the Avalanche, added to the pursuit Wednesday when it presented a $50,000 donation to The Salvation Army.
Receiving the donation were Salvation Army staff members Lt. Colonel Dan Starrett and Major Warren Dabis.
Through this gift, KSE hopes to provide relief services, including food, hydration, shelter and emotional support for thousands of evacuees and first responders dealing with this devastation.
“The Salvation Army was chosen because of its initial relief services,” said Deb Dowling Canino, executive director of Kroenke Sports Charities. “Additionally, The Salvation Army will aide in long-term recovery, and all donated funds will remain in Colorado.
“Our thoughts and hopes are with our neighbors and friends.”
The Salvation Army disaster personnel and resources from several states are serving those in Colorado affected by the recent floods. Multiple disaster-response units have been deployed, and personnel are coordinating with local and state emergency management to serve first responders and survivors.
As of Sept. 15, The Salvation Army had provided 10,000 meals, drinks and nutritional items to those in need in Boulder, Colo., Fort Collins, Colo., Longmont, Colo., and Jefferson County.
To help contribute to the relief effort, The Salvation Army notes that monetary donations are the most critical need as supplies and personnel are mobilized for immediate and long-term recovery.
