Dominic Toninato Winnipeg Jets 2018 February 3

After one outing at home, the Colorado Avalanche hits the road for a quick, one-game trip at the Winnipeg Jets. The Avalanche are in the midst of playing eight straight against Canadian teams.
Colorado is 19-15-6 all-time against the Jets, including a 7-9-3 record in Winnipeg. This is the fourth and final contest between the clubs this campaign and the second in Winnipeg. The Avalanche won both matchups in the Mile High City and fell in the first outing at the Jets.

Last Time Out

Colorado took on the Montreal Canadians in Denver on Valentine's Day and shutout the Habs 2-0. It was Colorado's 10th consecutive home win, tying the franchise record that the Quebec Nordiques set in 1983-84 and in the 1994-95 campaign. Semyon Varlamov made 44 saves en route to his second shutout of the season. Carl Soderberg notched his 11th tally of the year and Alexander Kerfoot added his 14th goal of the campaign to help their team to victory.
The Winnipeg Jets played the Washington Capitals on Tuesday and defeated the Caps 4-3 in overtime. Mark Scheifele opened the scoring for the Jets with his 16th on the year before the Capitals rattled off three unanswered goals. The Jets would battle back, however, scoring two goals in the third, including a Scheifele short-handed, game-tying tally with 15 seconds left to force overtime. Jets defenseman Tyler Myers completed the comeback by scoring a little over two minutes into overtime to give Winnipeg its 33rd win of the season.

Last Time They Met

The Avalanche took on the Jets in Winnipeg earlier this month on Feb. 3, dropping the contest 3-0. Colorado registered 25 shots on the Jets net but were unable to find twine as Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck recorded his fifth shutout this campaign. Patrick Laine, Nikolaj Ehlers and Jack Roslovic each scored a goal for the Jets and Blake Wheeler tallied two helpers. Semyon Varlamov made 29 saves in the effort.

What To Watch

On the Road Again
The Avalanche enters Friday night's tilt with an 11-14-3 record away from the friendly confines of Pepsi Center. The Avs have played nine of their last 11 on the road and will return home on Sunday for a matinee against the Edmonton Oilers before swinging back through Canada for three more games.
Canadian Swing
So far this season, Colorado has gone 6-4-2 against its friends north of the border. The Avs will look to improve on that record as they play their next seven against Canadian clubs, four of which outings will take place in Canada.

Player To Watch

Colorado: Left Wing Gabriel Bourque
For the past three games, Gabriel Bourque has donned the "A" on his chest and the interim alternate captain has put up points in four of his last five games, scoring three goals and adding a helper during that span. Bourque is coming off his busiest night of the season, recording a season-high 16:27 of ice time against the Canadiens on Wednesday. The winger has tallied one assist in three matchups against the Jets this year.
Winnipeg: Center Mark Scheifele
After missing six weeks with an upper-body injury, Winnipeg's center has recorded four points (two goals, two assists) in three games since returning to game action. Scheifele is coming off a contest against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday where he tallied two goals and a helper, including a short-handed, game-tying goal with 15 seconds remaining to force overtime. The Winnipeg forward has one assist in his one appearance against the Avalanche this season.

Lineup Notes

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said after practice on Thursday that Jonathan Bernier will start in net for the Avalanche and forward Blake Comeau could return to the Avs lineup after missing three contests with a lower-body injury.
