The Colorado Avalanche officially clinched a playoff spot following San Jose's 5-3 victory over Vancouver late Thursday night.
Vancouver still had a minute chance of overtaking the Avs heading into Thursday's action but the Canucks needed to win their final two games and get help. Colorado can still finish as high as fifth or as low as eighth when the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin on Friday, April 21.
This marks the 11th consecutive season that the Avalanche has made the playoffs, including 10 straight since the team moved from Quebec to Denver prior to the 1995-96 season.
Colorado lost 2-0 to Calgary on Thursday, ending its hopes of winning the Northwest Division. The Avs will finish the regular season with trips to Vancouver on Saturday and Edmonton on Monday night.
