The Lake Erie Monsters released their official training camp roster last week. The roster of 36 players (18 of which played for the Monsters last season) will begin training camp on Wednesday, Oct. 3. This year’s training camp will include daily practices, an intrasquad scrimmage and two preseason matchups against the Grand Rapids Griffins. The intrasquad scrimmage will take place on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Monsters' practice facility, Hoover Arena, in Strongsville, Ohio. Following the scrimmage, the Monsters will face off against the Griffins on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 6:00 p.m. in Toledo, Ohio at the Huntington Center, and once again on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 7:00 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich. at Yost Arena. The Monsters will begin their regular season on Friday, Oct. 12, against the Oklahoma City Barons at Quicken Loans Arena. Colin Smith (Kamloops Blazers) remains among the league leaders in scoring through the first four games, as he is currently tied for sixth in the WHL with seven points (2g/5a). Smith earned an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Victoria Royals and added another point (1g) in a 3-0 win over Victoria.
Troy Bourke (Prince George Cougars) has appeared in all four games, logging six PIM and one assist for the Cougars. Prince George is 3-1-0 on the season.
After going scoreless in his first two outings, Duncan Siemens (Saskatoon Blades) has posted two points (0g/2a) in the last two games for the Blades. Saskatoon remains .500 after falling to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday, Sept. 26 and defeating the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Michael Clarke (Windsor Spitfires) posted a goal in each of the club’s first three games. Clarke ranks second on the team in goals and tied for third in points (3g/0a). Clarkes also co-leads the team with two power-play goals. Clarke’s contributions have helped the Spitfires get off to a 3-2-0 start.
Garrett Meurs (Plymouth Whalers) helped the Whalers pick up their first win by defeating the Sudbury Wolves 6-2 on Saturday, Sept. 29. Meurs notched an assist in the win to bring his total to three points (1g/2a) in as many games.
Joseph Blandisi (Owen Sound Attack) has appeared in four of the club’s first five games and ranks tied for third on the team in assists (0g/3a).
Gabriel Beaupre (Val-d’Or Foreurs) has appeared in each of the Foreurs’ first four games. After opening the season with a win, the Foreurs have dropped three straight. Beaupre has recorded six PIM through the club’s first four games. Beaupre will report to Lake Erie’s camp, which begins on October 3.
Dillon Donnelly (Shawinigan Cataractes) has appeared in all three games thus far, recording four PIM. The defending Memorial Cup Champion Cataractes are 0-3-0 to start the season.
Denis Parshin (CSKA Moscow) has helped CSKA get off to an 8-4 record while appearing in eight of the club’s 12 games thus far. Parshin has recorded two points (1g/1a) and two PIM.
Joachim Nermark (Linkoping HC) has played in all seven games, helping his club jump out to a 4-3 start.
Nate Condon (University of Minnesota) will play one exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 6, against Lethbridge, before opening the regular season at home on Friday, Oct. 12 against Michigan State.
Luke Moffatt (University of Michigan) will play an exhibition game on Tuesday, Oct. 9, against Windsor before starting the regular season against the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Gus Young (Yale) will begin the regular season on the weekend of Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday Oct. 27, when the Bulldogs participate in the Ivy Showcase and the Ivy Shootout.
