Avalanche Farm Report: Feb. 5

Spotlight On: Tyler Weiss, LW, Nebraska Omaha (NCAA)

Prior to his NCAA debut with the Mavericks, the 5-foot-10, 159-pound forward played for the U.S. National Team Development Program for two seasons, totaling 60 points (20 goals, 40 assists) in 115 total contests.
Weiss represented the United States in international play at the 2018 IIHF U18 World Championship, helping his country earn the silver medal. In seven tournament games, the Raleigh, North Carolina, native recorded four points (two goals, two assists).
This past week with Omaha, Weiss scored his second goal of the season in a 6-3 win against Western Michigan on Saturday.

Colorado Eagles

The Eagles set two franchise marks on Jan. 25 against the Ontario Reign, a 4-0 win. Spencer Martin stopped 68 shots for his second shutout on the year and set a franchise record for saves in a regular-season game. Mark Alt netted three goals in the contest to record the club's first hat trick as an AHL organization.
After the AHL All-Star break, which saw Andrew Agozzino represent the Eagles at the league's mid-season showcase in Springfield, the team returned to the ice for a back-to-back set against the Tucson Roadrunners.
Colorado won both games in Arizona, with Alt, J.C. Beaudin and Martin Kaut reaching the back of the net on Friday in a 3-1 victory. Assists were registered by A.J. Greer, Logan O'Connor, Ty Lewis, Tim McGauley and Michael Joly, as the club killed all four penalties it faced. Martin stopped 31 shots between the pipes in the win.
The following night, the Eagles prevailed in a 5-4 overtime victory versus the Roadrunners. Agozzino was the hero in the extra frame, netting his team-leading 18th marker of the season in addition to an assist earlier in the contest. O'Connor, Igor Shvyrev, Tim McGauley and Joly each recorded one goal. Alt, Greer, Kaut, Dominic Toninato and Travis Barron each added a helper in the victory. Martin made at least 40 saves for the fifth time this year, stopping a total of 44 Tucson shots.

Utah Grizzlies (ECHL)

The Grizzlies went 3-0-1 this week as they wrapped up a six-game road stretch.
Josh Anderson scored his first professional goal, and it ended up as the game-winner as Utah picked up a 2-1 victory against the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday. Goaltender Joe Cannata made 36 saves in the Grizzlies' win. The next night, Utah won a 4-2 contest as Josh Dickinson picked up a helper.
The Grizzlies picked up a 4-0 shutout win over the Wichita Thunder on Friday but fell 5-4 in overtime the following night to the Thunder. Dickinson notched assists in both outings at Wichita, extending his point streak (three assists) to three games.

NCAA

University of Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish fell in both games against the Ohio State Buckeyes this week. Cam Morrison tallied his eighth goal of the season in a 4-2 loss on Friday but was held off the scoresheet in a 2-0 loss the next day. Morrison now has 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 19 games this year. Freshman defenseman Nate Clurman was in action in both contests for Notre Dame this week but didn't record any points; he has two assists in 26 outings this year. Fellow Avs prospect and frosh blueliner Nick Leivermann didn't suit up in either contest; he has a goal and an assist in 17 games this campaign.
Shane Bowers (Boston University): In a 7-5 loss to the University of Massachusetts on Friday, Bowers recorded an assist and registered four shots on goal. The Terriers fell 2-1 in overtime to Northeastern University on Monday in their first contest of the 67th Beanpot Tournament at TD Garden in Boston. The 6-foot-2, 189-pound center notched his 17th point (nine goals, eight assists) with a helper in the loss to the Huskies. With two assists this week, Bowers has reached the scoresheet in 10 of his last 13 appearances.
Cale Makar (University of Massachusetts): The defenseman logged an assist in a 7-5 win over the Boston University Terriers on Friday. The helper was Makar's 30th point (nine goals, 21 assists) of the season, tied for the third-most among blueliners in the NCAA.
Sampo Ranta (University of Minnesota): The Finnish forward took the ice twice for the Golden Gophers this week against the Michigan Wolverines. Minnesota dropped a 4-2 contest on Friday but earned a 4-3 victory the next night as Ranta recorded a shot on goal. Through 26 contests this season, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound left wing has registered 11 points (four goals, seven assists).
Denis Smirnov (Penn State University): The Nittany Lions were not in action this week but return to the ice when they host the University of Minnesota in a back-to-back set beginning Friday. Smirnov has posted 14 points (five goals, nine assists) during his junior season at Penn State.
Tyler Weiss (University of Nebraska-Omaha): Nebraska Omaha split a back-to-back set against the Western Michigan Broncos this week. The Mavericks fell 4-3 on Friday but recovered for a 6-3 win the next day, as Weiss notched his second goal of the season. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native has played in 15 contests, registering four points (two goals, two assists) in his first season in the NCAA.

OHL

Brandon Saigeon (Oshawa Generals): The Grimsby, Ontario, native continued his stellar season and extended his point streak (four goals, five assists) to four games. Saigeon tallied a goal and three helpers in a 12-6 win against the Peterborough Petes on Friday and then followed that performance with a two-goal outing in a 6-3 victory over Peterborough the following night. In his third game in as many days, Saigeon finished his week with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to Sault Ste. Marie. With 76 points (32 goals, 44 assists) through 50 games for both the Oshawa Generals and Hamilton Bulldogs, Saigeon ranks sixth in the OHL in overall scoring.

WHL

Nick Henry (Lethbridge Hurricanes): Henry took the ice two times this week for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, native notched three points (two goals, one assist) and paced the team with five shots in a 6-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, but he was held off the scoresheet in a 4-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos the following night. Splitting the season between Lethbridge and the Regina Pats, the 19-year-old has tallied 69 points (20 goals, 49 assists) in 51 total contests.

Russia

Nikolai Kovalenko (Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL): After scoring his fifth goal of the season on Jan. 24 in a 7-0 win over Slovan and skating in 10:40 of ice time during a 1-0 victory against Sochi on Jan. 27, Kovalenko did not dress for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl's three games this past week. The club went 2-0-1 with a 4-2 win against Sevestral on Wednesday, a 3-2 overtime loss against Torpedo on Friday and a 4-3 victory over Sochi on Sunday.
Danila Zhuravlyov (Bars Kazan, VHL): Bars Kazan went 1-2-0 this week with Zhuravlyov skating in all three contests. The club defeated Metallurg 2-1 on Thursday but fell in two contests following the win. On Saturday, the team lost 4-3 in a shootout to Sokol and dropped a 3-1 contest on Monday to Yermak. Zhuravlyov has contributed two assists in 33 appearances this season.
Shamil Shmakov (Sibirskie Snaipery, MHL): The Russian netminder served as the backup in both of his team's victories against Chelyabinsk this week. The club notched a 3-2 shootout win on Thursday and registered a 1-0 shutout on Friday. Shmakov has a 7-9-0 mark in 19 appearances this year with a .916 save percentage and 2.60 goals-against average.

Czech Republic

Petr Kvaca (Ceske Budejovice, Czech 2): In two contests this week, Ceske Budejovice went 1-1-0 with Kvaca starting one game. The club beat Kadan 4-1 on Wednesday with Kvaca as the backup but fell 4-2 to Kladno on Saturday. In Kvaca's start on Saturday, the 21-year-old netminder made 40 saves and now has a 9-6 record, .928 save percentage and 1.70 goals-against average in 16 appearances on the campaign for the club in the second-tier Czech pro league.

Finland

Justus Annunen (Hermes, Mestis): The Finnish netminder served as a backup in all three of Hermes' contests this week. His team beat KeuPa 4-2 on Wednesday, but Hermes fell 4-3 to KeuPa on Friday and 6-1 against Kettera the following night. Through 17 appearances with Hermes, Annunen has a goals-against average of 2.65 with an .894 save percentage.

Sweden

Adam Werner (Farjestad BK, SHL): The Swedish goaltender started one of his club's three games this week. Werner stopped 27 shots in a 3-2 loss to Djurgarden on Tuesday and served as the team's backup in both the 7-1 win against Orebro on Thursday and 3-2 victory over Mora on Saturday. He sports a 9-6-2 record in net this season and ranks second in the SHL with a save percentage of .925 and fifth with a 2.10 goals-against average.
Gustav Olhaver (Tingsryds AIF, Allsvenskan): The Swedish forward was held off the scoresheet this week in two games for Tingsryds AIF. The club fell 4-1 to Vita Hasten on Wednesday but bounced back to win a 5-2 decision against Sodertalje on Saturday. Olhaver has notched eight points (four goals, four assists) in 41 outings with his club this season.
