The Lake Erie Monsters closed out the 2012 calendar year with a 16-14-2-1 record (3rd – North Division, 9th – Western Conference). The Monsters went 1-2-0 over their last three games, dropping two consecutive contests against the Rochester Americans before shutting out the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-0 on December 29.
With 35 points thus far, Lake Erie remains in the hunt for postseason contention trailing the seventh-place Oklahoma City Barons and eighth-place Rockford IceHogs by a single point.
Two rookies sit atop the team’s scoring chart through the first 33 games of the season: Michael Sgarbossa and Andrew Agozzino. The duo, collectively, has earned 52 points (23g/29a).
Sgarbossa paces the club in both goals (12) and points (27) while Agozzino (11g/14a) has a team-best +11 rating.
Among the league’s rookie scoring leaders, Sgarbossa and Agozzino rank second and fourth, respectively.
Defenseman Tyson Barrie ranks fourth among AHL defenseman with 25 points (6g/19) through 33 games. The 21-year-old leads the Monsters in assists and ranks third in shots (76).
David van der Gulik was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 23, 2012. In three games on the week, van der Gulik scored three goals and tallied four assists for seven points to go along with a plus-5 rating for the Monsters. Van der Gulik is fourth on the Monsters with 22 points (10g/12a) and leads the team with two short-handed goals.

Defenseman Gabriel Beaupre and goaltender Kieran Millan have been called up to the Lake Erie Monsters.
Gabriel Beaupre had earned eight points (3g/5a) in 28 games before being called up to the Lake Erie Monsters on December 26.
Goaltender Kieran Millan, called up by the Monsters on December 29, had an 8-6-2 record with a 2.36 goals-against average and .929 save percentage in 18 appearances.
Fellow netminder Kent Patterson has a 10-5-0 record with a 2.87 GAA and .911 SV% in 17 games for the Cutthroats.

Colin Smith (Kamloops Blazers) remains the Western Hockey League’s leading scorer with 66 points (27g/39a) in 40 games. Smith leads the league in assists and shares the lead league in goals. Smith now has 19 multi-point efforts, while recording a point in 33-of-39 games. The Blazers rank second in the Western Conference with a 26-10-2-2 record (56 points).
Troy Bourke (Prince George Cougars) is currently riding a five-game point streak (2g/6a) and ranks second on the squad with 22 points (5g/17a) in 28 games. Bourke shares the team lead in assists and ranks third in power-play goals (4). Prince George is 12-20-1-4 (29 points).

The No. 4-ranked Gophers defeated the No. 1-ranked Boston College Eagles, 8-1, on December 30 to win its first Mariucci Classic title since 2008-09. Luke Moffatt (University of Michigan) has recorded seven points (7a) in 16 games. The Wolverines defeated Michigan State 5-2 on December 30 and lost to Michigan Tech 4-0 on December 29.
Gus Young (Yale) has three points (1g/2a) in 13 games. The Bulldogs lost 5-4 to Holy Cross on December 30. Prior to its matchup against Holy Cross, Yale defeated the Russian Red Stars 10-2 in an exhibition game on December 28.
Denis Parshin (Salavat Yulaev Ufa) has appeared in 22 games since joining Salavat Yulaev and has recorded 11 points (5g/6a). Parshin has 13 points (6g/7a) in 31 games between CSKA Moscow and Salavat Yulaev.
