The Albany River Rats lost two games and won one last week. The River Rats lost 7-4 to the Hershey Bears on Wednesday, Dec. 20 and dropped 2-1 to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday, Dec. 22. Albany (15-13-2) rebounded from the losses to beat the Syracuse Crunch 5-4 on Saturday, Dec. 23, and stands in fourth place in the AHL East Division. The Arizona Sundogs lost 4-1 to New Mexico on Dec. 23. The Sundogs (11-11-1) canceled their Dec. 22 road game against the Colorado Eagles because of extreme weather conditions in Colorado. The NCAA and Canadian junior hockey were on breaks for the holidays last week.

  • Albany defenseman Johnny Boychuk scored a hat-trick in the River Rats' 5-4 victory over Syracuse. Boychuk also had a goal in Albany's 7-4 loss to Hershey on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
  • Ben Guite scored Albany's only goal in the River Rats' 2-1 loss to Hamilton on Dec. 22 and had two assists in the team's 7-4 loss to Hershey. Teammate Matt Murley had a goal and an assist in the loss to the Bears.
  • Mike Carman scored a goal in Team USA's 6-3 loss to Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships. Carman's University of Minnesota teammate Ryan Stoa is also representing Team USA, which lost 2-1 to Germany on Dec. 26 and 6-3 to Canada on Dec. 27, at the championships in Leksand, Sweden.
