The Albany River Rats won their fourth straight game with a 5-2 victory over the Providence Bruins on Saturday, Dec. 16. The River Rats scored four goals in the first period and improved to 14-11-2. The Arizona Sundogs, the Avalanche's CHL affiliate, split two games last week with the New Mexico Scorpions. The Sundogs (11-10-1) lost 6-5 on Friday, Dec. 15 and rebounded to win 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday, Dec. 16.

  • Kyle Cumiskey had a goal and an assist in the River Rats' 5-2 victory over Providence. Teammate Matt Murley added a goal, increasing his point streak to six games.
  • Sundogs' forward Dan DaSilva had a goal and two assists in Arizona's 6-5 loss to New Mexico on Friday, Dec. 15. Ryan Steeves also scored a goal in the game.
  • Kitchener Rangers forward Victor Oreskovich had an assist in each of the Rangers' three games last week.
  • Nigel Williams scored a hat-trick in Saginaw's 7-1 win over Erie on Dec. 16. Williams also had a goal and an assist in the Spirit's 5-3 loss to Oshawa on Dec. 17 and an assist in a 5-3 loss to Kitchener on Dec. 15.
  • Kamloops Blazers defenseman Ray Macias had two assists in the Blazers' 3-1 win over Prince George on Dec. 15. Macias leads all WHL defensemen in scoring with 40 points (13 goals, 27 assists) in 35 games.
  • Seattle Thunderbirds forward Chris Durand scored a goal and earned third star of the game honors in Seattle's 2-0 win over Spokane on Saturday.
  • Tri-City goaltender Ian Keserich stopped 28 of 29 shots in the Storm's 4-1 win over Cedar Rapids on Saturday, earning second star of the game honors.
  • Chris Stewart and Codey Burki were among 38 players named to Canada's national junior selection camp but were not among the 25 players selected to represent Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships.
  • Stewart had a hat-trick, including a short handed goal, and was named the second star of the game in Kingston's 5-3 loss to Belleville on Dec. 15.
  • Burki, who is second in WHL scoring with 51 points (21 goals, 30 assists) in 35 games, had an assist in Brandon's 5-4 shootout loss to Regina on Dec. 16.
