Avalanche prospect Brad Malone has steadily improved during his three years in Grand Forks. After totaling three points (1g/2a) in 34 games as a freshman at the University of North Dakota, he saw his totals jump to five goals and 12 assists in 41 games during his sophomore campaign.
Now a junior, Malone is on pace to set career-highs in every statistical category.
Colorado’s fifth selection (fourth round, 105th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Malone netted a pair of goals over the weekend at the Subway Holiday Classic in Grand Forks, N.D. The Miramichi, New Brunswick native scored the eventual game-winning goal Friday in a 4-1 victory over Ohio State and added an unassisted short-handed goal the following night during the Fighting Sioux’s 5-5 tie with top-ranked Miami (Ohio) University.
Malone currently ranks fifth on North Dakota’s scoring chart with 11 points (3g/8a) in 14 games.
Lake Erie has hit a rough patch recently, losing all three of its games last week and five straight overall.
Chris Durno scored a goal and Tyler Weiman made 24 saves in a 4-1 loss to Toronto on Wednesday. The Monsters were then shut out by Hamilton in back-to-back games over the weekend, dropping 4-0 and 3-0 decisions on Friday and Saturday, respectively.Charlotte Checkers

-Boston College sophomore Paul Carey
scored a power-play goal and added an assist on Friday night as the Eagles skated past Clarkson, 6-5. With four goals and five assists in 11 games this season, Carey has already matched his point total from his freshman year (5g/4a in 24 games).
-Mike Carman scored the game-winning goal and Kent Patterson
made 37 saves to earn his first victory of the season as the University of Minnesota topped Michigan State University, 2-1, at the College Hockey Showcase on Saturday.
-Northern Michigan University center Mark Olver
tallied a power-play goal in the Wildcats’ 4-4 tie with Alaska on Saturday. Olver leads the team with 19 points (10g/9a) in 14 games.
-Colby Cohen and Kevin Shattenkirk recorded an assist apiece and Kieran Millan
made 21 saves to lead Boston University to a 6-5 overtime victory over Harvard last Tuesday (Nov. 24).QMJHL
-Quebec center Kelsey Tessier registered assists in back-to-back games over the weekend and now ranks third on his team in scoring with 27 points (7g/20a) through 27 games. Netminder Peter Delmas picked up the win for the Remparts during Thursday’s contest, stopping 26-of-27 shots to lead Quebec to a 2-1 win over Cape Breton.
-Joel Chouinard notched two assists in Victoriaville’s 5-4 triumph over Moncton on Sunday. The defenseman ranks sixth on the Tigres with 23 points (9g/14a) in 26 contests.WHL
-Kelowna’s Tyson Barrie
extended his point streak to 15 games by totaling three assists in two contests last week. During the streak, the defenseman has totaled 24 points (5g/19a). Overall, his 26 points (6g/20a) tie him for fourth among WHL defensemen in scoring.
-Tied with Barrie on the aforementioned list is Saskatoon defenseman Stefan Elliott
. The blueliner picked up one assist in the Blades’ two games last week and now owns 26 points (9g/17a) in 27 contests.
-Barrie and Elliott also suited up for Team WHL this week at the 2009 Subway Super Series. Barrie played against Team Russia on both Wednesday and Thursday and notched an assist during Wednesday’s 2-1 victory. Elliott only played in Thursday’s contest, but scored a power-play goal in a 4-2 win for Team WHL.OHL
-Cameron Gaunce registered a pair of assists Friday in Mississauga’s 5-2 loss to Barrie. He is now tied for ninth among OHL blueliners in scoring with 22 points (4g/18a) in 27 games.
-Kitchener netminder Brandon Maxwell was saddled with two losses last week. Maxwell made 34 stops in a 5-2 loss to London this past Tuesday and then turned aside 31 shots as the Rangers fell to Guelph, 7-4, on Saturday.USHL
-Nathan Condon scored the game-winner 51 seconds into overtime during the Fargo Force’s 5-4 victory over Tri-City on Friday. The forward scored again and added an assist during Saturday’s rematch, a 5-0 shutout victory for Fargo. Condon now has a nine-game point streak - during which he has totaled 14 points (8g/6a) - and has scored a goal in each of the past three games.
