Semyon Varlamov Road Colorado Avalanche Buffalo Sabres 11 October 2018

NEW YORK--Semyon Varlamov will be between the pipes for the Colorado Avalanche tonight at the New York Rangers. It will be the goaltender's fifth start this season.
The Samara, Russia, native is 3-0-1 through his first four game with a 1.75 goals-against average and .946 save percentage. Varlamov also has a 6-3-0 all-time mark against the Rangers, including a 5-2-0 record at Madison Square Garden.

"He's played really well," head coach Jared Bednar said after Colorado's practice on Sunday. "Last year at least he played real well at MSG. I think it is a good spot for him to go and then we'll go back to [Philipp] Grubauer."
The Avalanche claimed forward Marko Dano on waivers from the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, but the Eisenstadt, Austria, native has not yet joined the team due to immigration paperwork.
Colorado also recalled forward Sheldon Dries before the road swing to have an extra forward on the trip, and he is expected to play on a trio with Vladislav Kamenev and Gabriel Bourque.
"We have got a couple guys that are dinged up here today. I think I am going to give Calvert a shot on the line with Nieto and Soderberg," Bednar said on the Moser and Lombardi show this morning. "We got Dries and Kamenev and Bourque will go together on the other line and we will keep the top two lines, or the ones that we consider one and two, up there the same for now and give them an opportunity to bounce back and respond. Hopefully juggling things up here a little bit we will see how this all works out."
Below is the Avalanche's projected lineup with defensive combos from the team's practice on Sunday. All line combinations and defensive pairings are subject to change.
