Jonas Johansson Buffalo Sabres

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has acquired goaltender Jonas Johansson from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a sixth-round selection in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Johansson, 25, has appeared in seven games so far this season for Buffalo and has played in 13 career NHL contests since making his NHL debut against the Avalanche on Feb. 4, 2020. Johansson entered that game in relief of Carter Hutton in the second period, making 13 saves in his first NHL action. Selected by the Sabres in the third round (61st overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Johansson owns a 1-8-2 career NHL record with a 3.40 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound netminder played parts of four seasons with the Sabres' American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans, recording a 25-11-4 record, .908 save percentage and 2.63 goals-against average in 41 career appearances. During the 2019-20 campaign, he went 14-4-3 and ranked sixth among all AHL netminders in goals-against average (2.28) and seventh in save percentage (.921), earning a selection to the AHL All-Star Game.
Johansson (pronounced: YOH-nuhs yoh-HAHN-suhn) also spent two seasons with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones from 2017-2019, posting a 32-16-4 record, 2.86 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in 54 combined contests. He started all five of Cincinnati's postseason games in 2018, finishing with a 1-4 record, 3.31 goals-against average and .921 save percentage.
Prior to playing in North America, Johansson spent the majority of the 2016-17 campaign with Almtuna IS of HockeyAllsvenskan in Sweden, going 17-18-0 in 37 appearances with three shutouts while posting a 2.26 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. He also appeared in two games with Brynas IF of the Swedish Hockey League that season. Johansson played his first full professional season with Almtuna in 2015-16, logging a 24-17-2 record and a .913 save percentage in 42 games in Sweden's second division.
The Gavle, Sweden, native represented his country at the 2013 IIHF U18 World Championship in Sochi, Russia, posting a .931 save percentage and 2.23 goals-against average, earning a selection as one of Sweden's top three players in the tournament. He was named to Sweden's silver medal-winning team at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship but didn't appear in any games.
