The 2019 NHL Draft Lottery will be held in Toronto on Tuesday night, and the 15 teams that did not qualify for the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs or acquired the first-round picks of those non-postseason clubs will be present. The Colorado Avalanche will be among those in attendance and has the highest odds.

Colorado obtained the Ottawa Senators' first-round selection in either the 2018 or 2019 draft in a three-team trade on Nov. 5, 2017 that also included the Nashville Predators. The Senators chose to keep their 2018 pick (Brady Tkachuk, No. 4 overall), thus giving their 2019 first-round choice to the Avalanche. Ottawa finished the 2018-19 regular season with a 29-47-6 record, which ranked 31st in the league and granted Colorado the best odds in the lottery.

The Avs have an 18.5-percent chance of winning the No. 1 pick, and they are guaranteed at least the fourth-overall selection if not chosen in the lottery drawings based on Ottawa finishing the year with the fewest points (64).

The 2019 NHL Draft Lottery will consist of three drawings: the first to determine the club selecting first overall, the second to determine the club selecting second overall and the third to determine the club selecting third overall. The odds will change proportionately based on each drawing, with Colorado having the best probability each time unless having already been chosen.

The 12 clubs not selected in the lottery will be assigned 2019 NHL Draft selections 4 through 15, in inverse order based on regular-season points.

Colorado won the NHL Draft Lottery in 2013 and subsequently selected Nathan MacKinnon first overall. Other Avalanche first-round draft picks from recent years include Gabriel Landeskog (No. 2, 2011), Mikko Rantanen (No. 10, 2015) and Tyson Jost (No. 10, 2016). Cale Makar, who was selected by the Avs fourth overall in the 2017 NHL Draft, is a top-three finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player this season.

The results of the Draft Lottery will be revealed live on NBCSN in the United States and Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada during a special one-hour show beginning at 6 p.m. MT.

The 2019 NHL Draft will take place this summer at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. The first round will be held on Friday, June 21, and rounds 2-7 will take place on Saturday, June 22.
