The NHL announced on Wednesday that the Colorado Avalanche will face the Boston Bruins in the team's first home game of the 2017-18 season on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Pepsi Center.
The full 82-game schedule for the upcoming campaign will be announced on Thursday at 1 p.m. MT. Single-game tickets for the Avs' season also go on sale Thursday at AltitudeTickets.com.
Colorado's matchup with Boston marks the sixth time in the franchise's history that the club has played its first home contest against the Bruins and the first since beginning the 2008-09 campaign. The Quebec Nordiques played their first home game against Boston three times (1987-88, 1989-90, 1990-91), while the Avs also opened their home slate against the B's in 1999-00.
The NHL also announced that the Avalanche will start the season on the road at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers on Thursday, Oct. 5. It is the first time the franchise will begin a campaign versus the Rangers.
This year marks just the third time in the last 12 seasons that Colorado has begun the season on the road, and it is only the eighth such occasion since the franchise moved to Denver in 1995.
Two days after facing New York, the Avs will cross the Hudson River to take on the New Jersey Devils in their home opener at Prudential Center on Oct. 7.
Two other games for the Avalanche's upcoming season are already known after being previously announced in March. Colorado will take on the Ottawa Senators in back-to-back contests as part of the SAP NHL Global Series at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden, on Nov. 10-11.
