DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced that the month of April has been chosen Community Relations Month and will commemorate this designation with a monumental pre-game event on April 5 prior to the Avalanche game versus the San Jose Sharks.
At that time, the Colorado Avalanche Community Fund will announce plans for the Legacy Project, an unprecedented community outreach effort. This project and the role of the Colorado Avalanche Charity Fund, will be constant themes throughout the final four home games of the 2005-06 regular season.
"This project is going to be a highly significant event for the Denver community, something that is unique among charitable efforts of professional sports organizations," said Deb Dowling Kroenke Sports Enterprises VP of Community Relations. "The Avalanche wanted to find a big way to continue their support of the community that has been behind them over the last decade."
The Colorado Avalanche Charity Fund, a member of the Robert R. McCormick Foundation has contributed over $10 million to the Denver community since it's inception in 1995. Its primary concern and mission is centered around providing funding to help support those programs and agencies which focus on aiding underprivileged children and families in the Rocky Mountain region.
