Some of the best moments in Colorado Avalanche history can be relived in the coming weeks as Altitude TV re-broadcasts classic Avs games.
On Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. MT, Altitude will televise the first-ever Avalanche game from Oct. 6, 1995. Colorado defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 at McNichols Arena to begin its inaugural season in Denver, which of course ended with a Stanley Cup championship--the city's first major-league sports title.
The opponent for that first Avalanche game ended up being fitting, as Colorado and Detroit went on to meet in the Western Conference Final later that season and faced each other in the postseason five times in a matter of seven years, creating one of the fiercest rivalries in all of sports.
